I am Sarah Pettitt, an experienced humanistic integrative counsellor based in Essex (Buckhurst Hill). I trained on a BACP-accredited course and abide by their professional guidelines.
I am a warm, friendly counsellor who helps clients to make sense of their problems so that they can reach their full potential. As an integrative counsellor, I have been trained in a range of therapeutic disciplines.
These therapeutic approaches include Person-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Psychodynamic and creative therapies (e.g. art, sand tray).
My varied approach means that I meet the individual needs of each client, working in a way that suits them best.
I am particularly interested in how people relate to one another and themselves. I believe that our earliest past relationships (especially from childhood) influence our present lives, which includes our relationships, emotional regulation and behaviour. By exploring and processing the past, there is the possibility for change, growth and transformation in the present.
Apart from my private counselling practice, I have worked as a professional counsellor in diverse organisations and institutions.
Since 2012, I have worked as a bereavement counsellor at Grief Encounter, providing 1:1 counselling for bereaved adults and young people, but also delivering bereavement support groups.
I also work as a counsellor for Solace Women’s Aid where I offer 1:1 counselling for women who have been subjected to domestic violence.
Finally, I have worked as a school counsellor since 2015. In this role, I support Secondary School students with 1:1 and group counselling sessions and deliver workshops on specific mental health topics.
Issues I specialise in
- Depression/low mood
- Domestic violence
- Suicidal ideation
- Relationship problems (personal and professional)
